Hemostatic Herbs

Hua Sheng Pi
Neutral; Sweet, Slightly Bitter, Astringent
This herb mainly contains arachin (a dimeric proanthocyanidin type-A compound). It also contains the hemostatic active component D-(+)-catechin, lipids, sterols, pyrocatechol-type tannins, arachidoside, leucocyanidin, and leucodelphinidin, etc.
This herb restores coagulation time to normal in hemophiliacs, prolongs euglobulin lysis time, shortens plasma recalcification time, enhances plasma thromboplastin activity, and increases thrombus elasticity. Taking Peanut Skin markedly lowers fibrinolytic activity in humans and rabbits. In addition, arachin isolated from Peanut Skin has a transient hypotensive effect in rats and also lowers isolated rabbit intestinal tension.
