Lesser Galangal Rhizome

It mainly contains volatile oil, whose main components are 1,8-cineole, methyl cinnamate, eugenol, pinene and cubebene, etc. It also contains galangol, galangin, kaempferide, kaempferol, quercetin, isorhamnetin, galangin-3-methyl ether and quercetin-3-methyl ether, etc.

The decoction promotes gastric secretion and has antidiarrheal and analgesic effects. The aqueous extract of Gaoliangjiang has antithrombotic, anticoagulant, and antiplatelet effects. Its ether extract has antihypoxic activity. A 100% decoction inhibits Bacillus anthracis, α-hemolytic and β-hemolytic streptococci, diphtheria and diphtheroid bacilli, pneumococci, Staphylococcus aureus, and Staphylococcus albus to varying degrees.
