The stem contains aristolochic acid A, aristolochic acid B, aristolochic acid D, aristoloside, aristolochic acid D methyl ether, magnoflorine, β-sitosterol, dextro-isobicyclogermacrenal, aristololactam and 10-denitroaristolochic acid.

Therapeutic Effects

The decoction has diuretic and cardiotonic effects and inhibits Shigella and dermatophytes. Aristolochic acid has been reported to inhibit tumor cell growth and enhance immune function.
