Contains flavonoids, including calycosin and 3-hydroxy-9,10-dimethoxypterocarpan, and also astragalosides I, V, and III.
Therapeutic Effects
Astragalus contains chemical constituents such as astragalosides and polysaccharides, and has various pharmacological effects on the cerebral blood vessels. It can inhibit platelet aggregation, reduce blood viscosity and coagulability, relax smooth muscle, dilate cerebral blood vessels, reduce vascular resistance and improve blood circulation, thereby inhibiting the formation of arterial thrombosis; it can effectively reduce lipid peroxidation and has a strong free radical scavenging effect, thereby alleviating the damage caused by ischaemia in stroke.
