What's Inside

Ingredients

Contains volatile oils, mainly perillaldehyde, perillalcohol, limonene, linalool, menthol, caryophyllene; also contains elsholtzia ketone, perilla ketone, eugenol; additionally contains arginine, glycosides, tannins, and trace elements such as copper, chromium, zinc, nickel, and iron

Therapeutic Effects

1. Antimicrobial effects: Aqueous extract, decoction, and ethanol extract inhibit Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albicans, Cryptococcus neoformans, Trichophyton rubrum, Microsporum gypseum, and Epidermophyton floccosum. 2. Gastrointestinal effects: Decoction improves small intestinal mucosal villus injury in rats; perilla ketone promotes intestinal motility in mice. 3. Effects on coagulation: Injection narrows mesenteric arterioles in toads; tannin-free and cation-free extracts also cause microvascular constriction in mice (not blocked by α-receptor antagonists). However, injection prolongs coagulation time in rats and rabbits, possibly by inhibiting platelet function
