What's Inside

Ingredients

The aerial parts contain alkaloids: chelidonine, protopine, dl-stylopine and l-stylopine, etc. The stems and leaves contain choline, methylamine, histamine, tyramine, saponins and free flavonols.

Therapeutic Effects

1. Effects on the central nervous system: Greater celandine and chelidonine have morphine-like analgesic effects, markedly increasing the pain threshold, with analgesia lasting 4–48 hours. Greater celandine extract also has mild sedative and hypnotic effects. 2. Choleretic effect: Addition of total greater celandine extract to an isolated perfused rat liver model significantly increases bile flow; bile flow decreases immediately when administration is stopped.
