The root contains sterols: isocyasterone, 5-epicyasterone, hydroxycyasterone, cyasterone, amarasterone A and amarasterone B, capitasterone, poststerone, hydroxyecdysone and precyasterone.

Therapeutic Effects

1. Effects on the uterus: The fluid extract can induce contractions of pregnant and nonpregnant guinea pig uteri, nonpregnant pig uteri, pregnant and nonpregnant rabbit uteri, and pregnant pig uteri. 2. Choleretic effect: Oral administration of ecdysterone at 5 mg/kg once daily for 7 consecutive days promotes bile secretion in rats and alters bile composition by increasing bile acid and bilirubin levels while decreasing cholesterol levels.
