What's Inside

Ingredients

The bark contains gutta-percha (Eucommia rubber), and also glycosides, alkaloids, pectin, fat, resin, organic acids, ketose, vitamin C, aldose, and chlorogenic acid. The fatty acids of the seed fat oil are linolenic acid, linoleic acid, oleic acid, stearic acid, and palmitic acid. The gum content of the fruit is readily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and acetone.

Therapeutic Effects

1. Hypotensive effect: the extract and decoction of the bark have a prolonged hypotensive effect on animals. Intravenous injection of 5 mL of its extract (equivalent to 1–2 g of crude drug) into an anaesthetized dog produced a marked hypotensive effect lasting 2–3 hours, with rapid tolerance. 2. Diuretic effect: various preparations of Eucommia have a diuretic effect on anaesthetized dogs, without rapid tolerance, and also have a diuretic effect in normal rats and mice.
