Donkey-Hideglue

Mostly composed of collagen and its partial hydrolysis products; it contains nitrogen and is essentially protein. Hydrolysis yields various amino acids, including lysine, arginine, and histidine.

1. Effect on blood cells: after severe blood loss anaemia was produced by extensive bloodletting, oral administration of donkey-hide gelatin solution increased the red blood cell and haemoglobin levels faster than in the control group. 2. Effect on calcium metabolism: donkey-hide gelatin can improve the calcium balance in animals. When donkey-hide gelatin was given intragastrically to animals while calcium carbonate was added to the food, it increased the absorption and retention of calcium in the body and slightly raised the serum calcium.
