The stem contains arctiin, tracheloside, nortracheloside, matairesinoside, dambonitol, arctigenin, matairesinol, trachelogenin and nortrachelogenin. The stems and leaves contain alkaloids such as coronaridine, voacangine, apparicine, conoflorine and tabernaemontanine, etc.

Therapeutic Effects

Arctiin contained in Luoshiteng can cause vasodilation and lower blood pressure. It can induce convulsions in both cold-blooded and warm-blooded animals, while large doses may cause respiratory failure. It can also cause skin redness and diarrhea in mice and inhibit isolated rabbit intestinal and uterine tissue.
