Therapeutic Effects

When young rats were fed with a dilute alcohol extract of cistanche added to their drinking water, their body weight increased faster than that of the control group. The water infusion, aqueous ethanol extract and ethanol extract, tested on anaesthetized animals such as dogs, cats and rabbits, proved to have a blood-pressure-lowering effect. Cistanche has the effect of promoting salivary secretion and causing respiratory paralysis in mice.
