The rhizome contains cimicifugine alkaloids, salicylic acid, tannins, resins, caffeic acid, and ferulic acid.

Therapeutic Effects

Extract shows antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and antispasmodic effects; decoction has analgesic, sedative, and anticonvulsant effects, shortens coagulation time, and inhibits some bacteria and fungi.

Precautions

Contraindicated after measles eruption, yin deficiency with excess fire, hyperactive liver yang, or upper excess with lower deficiency
