GC-MS analysis of the volatile oil revealed 24 components, including sesquiterpenes, 1-pentadecene, ethyl laurate and n-hexadecane, etc. The flavonoid compounds include quercetin. A β-glucoside of a sesquiterpene lactone was also isolated, and its aglycone obtained after hydrolysis was named involucratolactone.

Therapeutic Effects

This herb has anti-inflammatory, analgesic, uterine-stimulant, pregnancy-terminating, cardiac-output-increasing, and hypotensive effects. Its decoction and total alkaloids inhibit the isolated rabbit intestine.
