What's Inside

Ingredients

The rhizome contains polygonatum mucopolysaccharide and four kinds of polygonatum fructan, and also contains azetidine-2-carboxylic acid, etc.

Therapeutic Effects

1. Cardiovascular effects: experiments on the isolated frog heart proved that a small dose of Polygonatum odoratum can rapidly strengthen the frog heart beat, while a large dose can weaken the heartbeat and even stop it. Clinical observation in a small number of cases indicates that Polygonatum odoratum has a controlling effect on heart failure caused by rheumatic heart disease, coronary atherosclerotic heart disease and cor pulmonale. Clinically, an extract made from Polygonatum odoratum combined with Codonopsis is also used to treat angina pectoris. 2. Effect on experimental tuberculosis: in mice infected with H37RV human-type tubercle bacilli, adding 2.5% Polygonatum odoratum to the feed could reduce the mortality rate, although the effect in alleviating the lesions was not obvious. In TCM clinical practice, Polygonatum odoratum is also often used to treat dry cough from yin deficiency, with a certain effect.
