What's Inside

Ingredients

Placental globulin preparations contain various antibodies; human placenta also contains interferon that can inhibit the invasion of various viruses into human cells, contains macroglobulin that can inhibit influenza virus, as well as various hormones and enzymes.

Therapeutic Effects

1. Anti-infection effect: placental gamma-globulin contains antibodies to measles, influenza and other diseases as well as diphtheria antitoxin, and can be used to prevent or alleviate infectious diseases such as measles. Being a protein, it is ineffective when taken orally and must be injected. Placental gamma-globulin also contains interferon, which can be used clinically to prevent or control viral infections. The placenta also contains lysozyme, which can prevent the death of mice (intraperitoneal injection) caused by enteritis; it also has a certain inhibitory effect on the damage caused by endotoxin in rats. 2. Enhancing the body's resistance: oral administration of placenta powder to mice can alleviate tuberculous lesions, whereas in test tubes it instead promotes the growth of tubercle bacilli, so its action is considered to lie mainly in increasing the body's resistance. Intraperitoneal injection of the hydrochloric acid hydrolysate of defatted placenta into rats markedly inhibits the hepatic fatty deposition caused by carbon tetrachloride and ethionine.
