Ingredients

Chuanbei commodities are rather complex; two bei alkaloids were isolated from commercial Chuanbei. Gansubeimu contains minpeimine and minbei-fen alkaloid, and qingpeimine. Lubei contains lubei alkaloid (lubeijian).

Therapeutic Effects

The alkaloids contained in this herb have a marked antitussive and expectorant effect. Chuanbeimu extract also has an expectorant effect. Chuanbeimu alkaloid has a blood-pressure-lowering effect. Xibeimu alkaloid can increase the tension of the isolated guinea-pig uterus and has an antispasmodic effect; it can also inhibit the growth and reproduction of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.
