Aloes

This product mainly contains anthraquinones, the principal components being aloin and aloe-emodin, etc. It also contains flavonoids such as rutin, carbohydrates such as polysaccharides, sterols, amino acids, fatty acids and various vitamins, etc.

The extract can inhibit the growth of S180 sarcoma and Ehrlich ascites carcinoma and has an inhibitory effect on the isolated toad heart. Aloe aqueous extract inhibits various dermatophytes and human-type tubercle bacilli. Aloe anthraquinone derivatives have a stimulant laxative effect. Aloe-emodin is converted in the intestine to aloe-emodin-9-anthraquinone, which not only increases water content in the colon but also promotes intestinal mucosal secretion. Because of its strong irritant action, it may cause marked abdominal pain and pelvic congestion; severe cases may lead to nephritis. Total aloe glycosides have a protective effect against chemically induced liver injury. Aloin A can protect the stomach against damaging factors such as gastric acid and pepsin.
