What's Inside

Ingredients

It contains diterpene lactones such as yuanhuacin A, B, C, D and E, and yuanhuacine, etc.; it also contains flavonoids such as genkwanin, apigenin and hydroxygenkwanin, coumarins such as daphnetin, as well as benzoic acid and syringin, etc.

Therapeutic Effects

The aqueous infusion, decoction, and alcoholic extract increase intestinal peristalsis and intestinal tone, causing abdominal pain and watery diarrhea; at higher doses, however, inhibitory effects may occur. In rats given a decoction of Yuanhua, urine output increases significantly. Yuanhua has antitussive and expectorant effects and may improve cardiovascular function. Genkwanin can induce uterine contractions and terminate pregnancy. In addition, hydroalcoholic extracts and aqueous infusions of vinegar-processed Yuanhua inhibit various bacteria, viruses, and fungi.
