Ingredients

The flowers contain sterols such as tussilagol, rutin, hyperoside, triterpenoid saponins, tannins, wax, volatile oil, and taraxanthin; the leaves contain bitter glycosides, gallic acid, elastic rubber-like substances, etc.

Therapeutic Effects

1. Effect on the respiratory system: has antitussive, expectorant, and a slight anti-asthma effect. Oral administration of Kuandonghua decoction has a marked antitussive effect but not persistent. 2. Effect on the circulatory system: intravenous injection of the alcohol extract into anesthetized cats has a first-down-then-up effect on blood pressure; according to component-separation tests, the alcohol-soluble ether-soluble part of Kuandonghua shows a pressor effect, while the alcohol-soluble but ether-insoluble part shows a depressor effect.
