Therapeutic Effects

1. Antitussive effect: D-mannitol has an antitussive effect. It can also be used for cerebral edema, raising blood osmotic pressure, lowering intracranial pressure, with a dehydration effect stronger than urea and of longer duration. It can also be used for edema of extensive burns and scalds, preventing and treating acute renal failure and lowering intraocular pressure, treating acute glaucoma, and replacing sugar as a sweet food or flavoring for diabetic patients. 2. Effect on the intestine: Luohanguo fitness tea (containing 77.5% Luohanguo, 15% tea, and 7.5% Luohanguo preparation) has no marked effect on the spontaneous activity of isolated mouse small intestine, but can strengthen the spontaneous activity of isolated rabbit and dog small intestine; it antagonizes the tonic contraction of the intestine induced by acetylcholine or barium chloride, relaxing and spasmodically relieving the intestine; it also antagonizes the relaxation of the intestine induced by adrenaline, restoring spontaneous activity. This shows that Luohanguo fitness tea has a bidirectional regulatory effect on intestinal motility.
