What's Inside

Ingredients

Contains umbelliferone, scopoletin, and flavonoid constituents such as mulberroside (sanggenpisu), sangsu, sangsexien, cyclomulberrin, and cyclomulberrochromene.

Therapeutic Effects

1. Blood-pressure-lowering effect: oral administration of the decoction of Sang root or branch bark has a hypotensive effect; the alcohol extract of Sangbaipi not only lowers blood pressure when given intraduodenally to anesthetized animals, but also produces a marked hypotensive effect when given by gavage to hypertensive animals. 2. Effect on the cardiovascular system: Sangbaipi extract inhibits the isolated frog heart, dilates rabbit ear vessels, and constricts frog hind-limb vessels; these effects can be blocked by atropine. 3. Diuretic and laxative effects: the water extract or n-butanol extract of Sangbaipi given by gavage or intraperitoneally to rats, and the Sangbaipi decoction given orally to rabbits, all have a diuretic effect, with increased urine volume and excretion of Na+, K+, and chloride. Gavage of the water extract to mice produces liquid stools, indicating a laxative effect.
