Ingredients

The seeds of Duxingcai contain fatty oil, sinigrin, protein, and sugars. The seeds of Bonianghao contain volatile oil, which is benzyl isothiocyanate, allyl isothiocyanate, and diallyl disulfide.

Therapeutic Effects

The alcohol extracts of the dried seeds of both Bonianghao and Duxingcai show cardiotonic effects; on the in situ frog heart they cause it to stop in systole; studies on the in situ rabbit and cat heart, cat heart-lung preparations, and cat ECG all show strengthened cardiac contraction, slowed heart rate, and atrioventricular block.
