What's Inside

Ingredients

The pure product mainly contains sulfur, and contains tellurium and selenium; commercial products have impurities.

Therapeutic Effects

Sulfur itself is inactive; after oral administration it becomes sulfide or hydrogen sulfide, stimulating the gastrointestinal mucosa and exciting peristalsis, causing diarrhea. This process requires an alkaline environment, Escherichia coli, and especially the presence of lipolytic enzymes. When intestinal contents contain more fatty substances, large amounts of hydrogen sulfide are easily produced causing diarrhea. Excessively high concentration of hydrogen sulfide in air can directly paralyze central nerve cells causing death. Local application of sulfides has a keratolytic and depilatory (barium sulfide) effect.
