What's Inside

Ingredients

Contains moisture, ash, nitrogenous compounds (including ammonium carbonate, ammonia from ammonium salts, urea, amino-acid nitrogen), cholesterol, crude fiber, fatty acids, and muscone. The principal aromatic constituent of musk is muscone, with a small amount of normuscone also present.

Therapeutic Effects

1. Effect on the central nervous system: Small doses of natural or synthetic muscone have no significant effect on the alimentary motor conditioned reflex of rats; moderate doses (0.01–0.06 mg/kg) prolong the latency of the positive conditioned reflex or cause disappearance of the response; large doses (1 mg/kg) produce toxic symptoms in most animals. 2. Effect on the uterus: Musk has a marked excitatory effect on both isolated and intact uteri, the latter being more sensitive.
