The whole herb contains flavonoids, including sotetsuflavone, hinokiflavone, apigenin, and rutin, etc. It also contains 3β-cholesterol and trehalose, etc.

1. Antibacterial effect: 100% Juanbai decoction inhibits Staphylococcus aureus in vitro. 2. Effect on the digestive system: Juanbai injection markedly inhibits isolated rabbit small intestine contraction, significantly lowering tension, and can antagonize the excitatory effect of barium chloride and acetylcholine on the isolated small intestine. 3. Antitumor effect: the hot-water extract of the whole Juanbai herb has a 61.2% inhibition rate on mouse sarcoma S180, and the ethanol extract has an 18.6% inhibition rate. In vivo experiments show a certain inhibitory effect on small carcinomas and can prolong the life of tumor-transplanted animals. 4. Immune effect: Juanbai, like cyclophosphamide, can significantly lower serum IgG, IgM, and IgA content in mice; and the combination of cyclophosphamide solution and Juanbai water decoction can also significantly lower serum IgG, IgM, and IgA content in normal mice, with no antagonism between the two. 5. Effect on the blood system: intragastric administration of Juanbai extract to mice shows that both Juanbai and its processed products can significantly shorten bleeding time, with the water-soluble part being more effective. 6. Other effects: Juanbai water extract markedly inhibits the peristalsis and tension of normal isolated rabbit intestinal smooth muscle, and also antagonizes the enhanced intestinal tension caused by barium chloride and acetylcholine.
