This product mainly contains lipids, steroids, flavonoids and saccharides; the main components of the lipids are triacylglycerols and so on; the main steroidal components are β-sitosterol and campesterol and so on; and the main flavonoid components are prunin, naringenin and so on. This product also contains amygdalin, phospholipids, proteins and so on.

The decoction of this product can promote uterine contraction in primiparous women and help postpartum involution of the uterus and haemostasis; it has a strong anti-exudative effect on early-stage inflammation; it can increase cerebral blood flow and reduce cerebrovascular resistance. The amygdalin it contains, after hydrolysis, produces hydrocyanic acid and benzaldehyde, which can inhibit tissue respiration and reduce oxygen consumption; it is used to treat cough and makes the sputum easy to expectorate.
