Contains cantharidin, fat, resin, formic acid, pigment, etc.

Therapeutic Effects

Banmao (mainly its cantharidin) has a rubefacient and vesicant effect on skin and mucosa; its irritancy is quite strong, but its tissue penetrating power is small, so its action is slower. Cantharidin has a slight inhibitory effect on mouse sarcoma S180, causing the cancerous tissue to become fragmentary and erosive.
