What's Inside

Ingredients

The whole herb contains verbenalin, hastatoside, 5-hydroxyverbenalin, lupeol, sitosterol, ursolic acid, aucubin, artemetin, and other constituents.

Therapeutic Effects

1. Anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects: Both water and alcohol extracts have anti-inflammatory effects against inflammation induced by mustard oil instilled into the conjunctival sac of rabbits, with the alcohol extract being more effective than the water extract. Within the alcohol extract, the water-soluble fraction is more effective than the water-insoluble fraction. The aqueous extract has an analgesic effect on pain induced by electrical stimulation of rabbit dental pulp, beginning 1 hour after administration and disappearing after 3 hours; the analgesic effect of the alcohol extract is still not completely gone after 6 hours, with the water-soluble fraction showing greater activity, while the water-insoluble fraction has no analgesic effect. 2. Antitussive effect: The aqueous decoction of Verbena officinalis has a certain antitussive effect, and its active antitussive constituents are β-sitosterol and verbenalin.
