This product contains alkaloids, flavonoid glycosides, tannins, volatile oil, phenols, and other constituents. It also contains ranunculin pigments, chrysanthemaxanthin, β-carotene, and others.

The decoction of this product has broad-spectrum antibacterial activity and strongly inhibits Shigella flexneri, Shigella dysenteriae, Staphylococcus aureus, typhoid bacilli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and others. Different extracts of Senecio scandens show anti-leptospiral activity in vitro, especially the ether extract. Senecionine alkaloid can inhibit Walker carcinosarcoma W256 in rats, suggesting an antitumor effect. In addition, senecionine and seneciphylline have antispasmodic effects on rat small intestinal spasm.

Do not use in patients with diarrhea due to internal cold.
