Ingredients

This product contains triterpene alcohols, the main constituents being β-amyrin, butyl mipaol, parkeol, and related compounds. It also contains flavonoids such as quercetin, luteolin, kaempferol, and apigenin, as well as amino acids, organic acids, and sugars.

Therapeutic Effects

The decoction and alcoholic extract of this product inhibit dysentery bacilli, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and others, with especially marked activity against dysentery bacilli. Its aqueous extract can constrict the rabbit aorta, weaken myocardial contractility, and raise blood pressure in rats; it can also enhance contraction of isolated guinea pig ileum. It has a uterotonic effect as well. In addition, it has diuretic activity and can increase blood potassium levels.

Precautions

Use with caution in patients with spleen deficiency and loose stools, and during pregnancy.
