The whole herb contains buddlejoside, including acaciin and related compounds.
Buddleja officinalis has insecticidal effects against certain insects. Its decoction can inhibit Staphylococcus aureus in vitro.
Special note: The flower and root of Buddleja officinalis are also used medicinally. The flower has the functions of reducing phlegm, arresting malaria, and relieving toxicity, and is mainly used for phlegm-retention with dyspnea, malaria, infantile malnutrition, and scalds. The root has the functions of invigorating blood, dispelling blood stasis, reducing accumulation, and detoxifying, and is contraindicated during pregnancy. Precautions: The dosage should not be excessive; otherwise, toxic side effects such as dizziness, vomiting, dyspnea, numbness of the limbs, and tremors may occur.
