Slightly cold; bitter, acrid
It contains mucilage, starch, tartaric acid, borneolic acid, as well as glycosides, fatty acids, phenolic compounds, and other constituents.
The aqueous infusion of this product shows varying degrees of inhibition in vitro against dermatophytes such as Microsporum audouinii and Trichophyton rubrum. Its decoction can inhibit Staphylococcus aureus in vitro.
Use with caution in yin-type abscesses and in carbuncles/sores that have already ulcerated; use with caution during pregnancy. Incompatible with Aconitum (Wu Tou).
