The leaves and stems of Clerodendrum bungei contain organic acids such as succinic acid, anisic acid, and vanillic acid; they also contain magnesium lactate, potassium nitrate, maltol, suberone, taraxerol, and clerosterol. The stems contain diterpenes, including bungein A and bungein B. The whole herb contains clerosterol, α-amyrin, and clerodone.

1. Effect on immune function: Intravenous tail injection of 0.1 mL of Clerodendrum bungei injection (containing 4.6 mg flavonoids) can significantly increase the phagocytic index and phagocytic percentage of neutrophils in mice, suggesting that this product can enhance opsonic activity in serum. 2. Effect on the round ligament of the uterus: Intravenous injection of the aqueous decoction–alcohol extract at 15 g/kg, total alkaloids at 45 g/kg, or magnesium lactate at 27 mg/kg can induce electromyographic discharge in the round ligament of the uterus in rabbits, showing paroxysmal enhancement beginning 10–15 minutes after administration and lasting for 30 minutes. 3. Other effects: In vitro tests of the injection showed a strong inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus and yeast.
