Ingredients

The bark contains ailanthone, 11-acetylailanthone, ailanthinone C, and various toxic alkaloids of the β-carboline type.

Therapeutic Effects

The decoction inhibits Shigella flexneri, Shigella sonnei, and Escherichia coli in vitro, and is also effective against amoebic dysentery. Pharmacological evaluation by the eosin test showed that ailanthone has strong anticancer activity and certain therapeutic effects on roundworm disease and cervical cancer.
