Shrubalthea Flower

It contains quercetin-3-diglucoside, quercetin-3,7-diglucoside, cyanidin-3,5-diglucoside, cyanidin-3-sophoroside-5-glucoside, and related compounds; it also contains hentriacontane, β-sitosterol, and cyclic peptide alkaloids.

The glycosides contained in hibiscus flower have a hypotensive effect in anesthetized dogs. Intravenous injection of 40–80 mg/kg of this glycoside fraction (not purified) can cause a sharp drop in blood pressure; after slight recovery, blood pressure falls again and remains low for 1–2 hours. This hypotensive effect is not influenced by atropine.
