Therapeutic Effects

Effects on the cardiovascular system: An injection made from Ilex asprella root treated with ethanol and sodium bisulfate can dilate coronary vessels, increase coronary blood flow, and strengthen cardiac contractility in perfused isolated guinea pig hearts. In rabbits with acute myocardial ischemia induced by pituitrin, administration of the injection improved tall T waves on ECG and also improved ST-segment deviation and arrhythmia.
