It contains alkaloids such as berberine, jatrorrhizine, magnoflorine, phellodendrine, N-methylhordenine, palmatine, and menisperine; it also contains obakunone, obaculactone, dictamnolactone, obakunonic acid, lumicaeruleic acid, 7-dehydrostigmasterol, β-sitosterol, and campesterol. The root bark contains berberine, jatrorrhizine, phellodendrine, and N-methylhordenine.
