Ingredients

Coptis contains alkaloids such as berberine, coptisine, methylcoptisine, palmatine, and columbamine; it also contains obakunone, obaculactone, and phenolic constituents.

Therapeutic Effects

1. Antimicrobial and antiprotozoal effects: Coptis chinensis has strong inhibitory effects on Staphylococcus aureus, Shigella dysenteriae, and Shigella flexneri. 2. Antiviral effect: A myocarditis animal model was established by infecting BALA/C mice with Coxsackie B₃ virus (CB₃V); treatment with Coptis showed antiviral effects.
