It contains kaempferol, quercetin, ellagic acid, gallic acid, 3-O-methylellagic acid, kaempferol-7-O-glucoside, and kaempferol-3-O-glucuronide.

1. Antibacterial effect: The decoction shows strong antibacterial effects in vitro against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, group B streptococci, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and others. 2. Anti–hepatitis B virus effect: In vitro, the decoction inhibits hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA polymerase and degrades HBV DNA. 3. Effects on smooth muscle and skeletal muscle: The decoction inhibits isolated rat uterus. The aqueous extract causes contraction of isolated guinea pig ileum and can mildly increase the tone of isolated rabbit duodenum. 4. Antihypertensive effect: Intravenous injection of the decoction in anesthetized dogs lowers blood pressure. 5. Central inhibitory effect: Intraperitoneal injection of the aqueous extract in mice has a central depressant effect, manifested as motor incoordination, and can prolong the sleeping time induced by cyclobarbital sodium.
