Lightyellow Sophora Root

The roots contain alkaloids, including matrine, oxymatrine, N-oxide sophoridine, sophocarpine, (+)-allomatrine, (+)-isomatrine, and (+)-sophoranol.

1. Diuretic effect: Oral or injected decoction of Sophora flavescens and the matrine it contains can both produce diuresis in rabbits, with increased salt excretion occurring before the increase in urine volume. 2. Anti-pathogen effect: High-concentration decoction in test tubes inhibits Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The decoction (8%) and aqueous infusion (1:3) also show varying degrees of inhibition in vitro against some common dermatophytes.
