1. Antibacterial effect: Concentrated forsythia decoction has antibacterial activity in vitro and can inhibit typhoid bacilli, paratyphoid bacilli, E. coli, dysentery bacilli, diphtheria bacilli, Vibrio cholerae, staphylococci, streptococci, and others. Its in vitro antibacterial effect is generally similar to that of honeysuckle and is a major antibacterial component of Yinqiao Powder. 2. Other effect: Forsythia can inhibit the emetic effect of intravenously injected digitalis in pigeons and reduce the number of vomiting episodes, though it does not change the latent period of vomiting. Its antiemetic effect is similar to that seen 2 hours after chlorpromazine injection.
Avoid use in patients with weak spleen and stomach, fever due to qi deficiency, or ulcerated sores with thin, pale-colored pus.
