Chinese Gentian

It contains iridoid glycosides, the principal constituents being gentiopicroside, swertiamarin, and related compounds. Gentian also contains gentioflavine, gentianine, and gentianose.

Gentiopicroside, contained in this product, has hepatoprotective, alanine aminotransferase–lowering, and choleretic effects; it can also reduce inflammation and inhibit or kill malarial parasites. Gentianine has sedative, muscle-relaxant, and hypotensive effects. Small doses of gentian can enhance gastric juice secretion and promote digestion. In addition, this product also has diuretic, antibacterial, and anthelmintic effects.
